Objectives |
| The main objectives of the project are to: (1)
Control flooding and ice jaming in the lower reaches of the
Yellow River Basin to protect major infrastructure and people;
(2) control siltation in the 800 km downstream channel of the
river and prevent further aggradation so that levee raising
can be delayed by 20 years; (3) provide water for assured irrigation
for two million hectares and water supply for cities and industries;
(4) and to generate hydropower for peaking power supply, replacing
thermal generation in Henan Province and the Central China Power
Grid. |
